I‘d usually end up buying a replacement about once a year, as even with doing all the appropriate maintenance, they usually start to fail around then. It‘s a $20 fountain, so not a big deal, you get what you pay for.However, after receiving this latest one, I‘m probably not going to be buying any other ones due to the design changed that were made. The supplier for the pump itself appears to be the same, but they‘ve opted for a cheaper option that doesn‘t have suction cups on the bottom of the pump to keep it in place, and they also cut costs on the plastic housing as well by removing the raised plastic that was used to center the pump for the water to flow properly. Granted, they have included a rubber adapter to attach to the pump so you can get it into place properly, but now you need to hold the inner lid and attach the pump there, hook the cable through the notch in that lid, and then lower that over the base that you‘re to have filled with water beforehand. Additionally, said rubber adapter is flared at the top and is designed to fit the Veken water filters specificially, and designed to not fit generic water filters that can be purchased for cheaper.It‘s not a terrible design, but it‘s more parts to clean and seems to be changes implemented in the name of saving costs or increasing profit, and the old design worked fine.",

When I go the clean the fountain, all the parts feel very slimy.  It is invisible but you can feel it.My cats will drink from the fountain when it’s freshly cleaned and refilled for a few days, then they start acting almost scared of it, and scared to approach it and then walk away.  So I always keep just a bowl of water next to it just incase.But I think I figured out they must be able to smell or detect whatever this slimey film is after a few days.  I change it out and wash everything and replace the filter and sponge every week or two but I feel it’s not enough if there is slime all over everything.  They should last longer and keep it clean for as long as they are supposed to.Maybe stainless would be better?  Mine is plastic.  Their plain water bowl also starts to get slimey after a few days when I go to refill it, I can feel the slime and I wash it first then refill it.  But I feel a water fountain with a filter should last longer than a plain water bowl.",
